Cycle Tour

Day 1: Tuesday 14th of March, 2011
Point Turton to Warooka return
Before i started for the first cycle of the tour i felt really excited at the challenages aheah of the bike tour over the three days. This was something i hadn't really done before so i wasn't sure at what to expect ahead. Mostly on this day the terrian we covered was quite flat and there where to many steep hills, mainly in the afternoon though, the wind effected the ride to an extent and in some parts it was really tough. Probably the only thing during the day and through out the whole cycle tour that i struggled with was the shifting of the gears on the bike, and trying to find the right pace. The bike riding through out the trip i believed helped my fitness and mainly help build the muscles in my legs. Today we covered a total distance of 40kms through the whole day and this was mainly covered in the farming aera's around Point Turton and Warooka. Thorughout the day we needed to pack supply's for lunch and snacks like scroggin and lots of water for the day. This had to be packed for the rest of the three days, but by the last day i had ran out of supplys for scroggin which really got my energy levels down. During the day there was only one challenge for me and the class. The was once a really big head wind on a steep hill which some of us found it physically demanding and i found it pretty tough.

Day 2: Wednesday 15th of March, 2011
Innis National Park
Todays cycle tour was qutie a tough ride for many people and was very well persuded by many people. The terrain through out the day was very hill and steep which challenaged my alot and by the end of the day i had felt i had achived something big which i first doubted myself with. The weather on this day was like the day before, a tail wind in the morning and a head wind in the afternoon which i found i really struggled with. During the afternoon we where set a challenge by Paul to stay in the second highest gear on the bike for about 40kms. This was a  challenge that made me doubt myself and i throught i wouldnt be able to do it but almost everyone in the class completed the whole challenge which was not expected by the staff and this was a skill i learned for this day. The senerey through innis national pack was pretty wonderful but it was deiciving because of the tough head wind. Physically for me their was alot of pain becasue of the steep hills, this was mainly in my legs but i was mentelly happy because i made the challenge. Todays ride was the longest amount of kms with us doing 60kms.

Day 3: Thursday 16th of March, 2011
For me todays cycle tour was physically demanding and i just really wanted the end of the day and the tour. This was mainly because i didnt really have to much energy coming into my body with lack of supplys like scroggin which really challenged me during the day. Todays terrian was quite flat but unpredicable with alot of steep but annoying hills which was a challenge for me. Todays weather was qutie good compared to others but still a little bit of a head wind. During this ride i think i conquored my challenage of changing gears to the right pace that was comftable for me. This last day really taught me mentally that i really had just keep pushing to the end becasue at one bit i just wanted to give up the whole thing but i think i ve over come that now and i dont want to give up. Todays ride was 45 kms but becasue the day just really dragged on for me i felt like i had riden 60 or something.

Fitness Program

Friday, 18th of March, 2011
Distance: 3.4km
Time: 14:45

Friday was our first day doing the fitness and power training. The run consisted of running to the rock which was a km and a bit away from the camp and running back. The run for me personally was not to much a challenge but my body was a little fatigue, especially after the bike ride. During the run i really paced myself throughout the whole run consistently and that is the thing that got me through the three kms. The goals i set where just to stay up the front of the pack and keep a consistent run and they worked out in the end. Compared to today's fitness session, today i felt good and not as tired. Next time i think i will work harder to get more pace early into my run.

Saturday, 19th of March, 2011
Distance: 5.5
Time: 23.35

Today's run consisted of us running to the end of the point turton jetty and back to campus. Today after the run i felt really sore around my legs but during the run i felt fine but tired. Before we started the run i didn't feel good and i felt i would struggle but in the end i finished well. The thing that made me persist and not give up and be slack was the confidence i had from the day before and knowing that  i was going to do well hopefully and i did. The goals i set where to pretty much stay up with the front pack through out the whole run with out backing off and i achieved this and i ended up over taking that pack and achieved over my goals i set which was a good outcome for me. Probably next time i do the run i would try keep a consistent pace over the whole run.

Sunday, 20Th of March
Distance: 3.4
Time: 14:05
Today's run was for us to run to the rock and back to Wambana. Today my body felt really good and i didn't feel as though i was lacking in pace or intenseity. During the run i tried to set myself some small goals. I set myself to finish with the runners that where up the front and keep up the pace. This time doing the 3.4 i felt more fitter than i did the first time and i felt more fresh i quess and it felt easyer than the first time i did it. Next time i do a 3.4 i will try to be quicker with my time and i want to try and beat adam.

Monday, 21st of March
Fitness game
In todays program we had a go for the first time at a fitness game. During this time we played many games like modified dodgeball, and varies team work games. This wasnt really a heavy work out so i felt good doing most activities but for some i felt soreness in my legs.

Tuesday, 22nd of March
Leader
Today i was a leader which involved me organising varies things in order to get the group ready. During the fitness program the rest of the class did the 5.5 km, and me and Jake ran to the mall which is a 2 km run to collect the mail.

Wednesday, 23rd of March
Power fitness
In this activity we did a range of drills like spirnt games and different types of leg lunges. At the start doing the sprint games i felt good and didnt feel sore like pervious mornings. But as soon as we started the lunges my legs got really fatugied and my legs started to burn which has made me sore for the last couple of days. The lunges where something that challenaged me and made me work hard.

Thursday 24th of March
Distance: 9.2km
Time: 50:10
In this run we had to run from point turton heading to Warooka and turning off to a beach track back to Point Turton. Today i was really sore from the power fitness and i found it really hard to warm up but i soon overcame this by the time i started. Well at the start of the run i felt calm and i didnt feel fatiuged becasue we where running as a group. as soon as the group split up i found that i had to push me self inorder to get a good time and actually finish the run. Running along the beach was fun and inorder to set myslef goals, every 800 metres or so i would set myself a target like say a bush and reach it and set myself a new one.

Friday 25th of March
Early morning beach walk
Today in the fitness program we did a beach walk/recovery session. In our leadership partnership we disscussed our excuse me gentlemen which is a thing that we have to learn about each others leader. My leader partner is Jake Girke so we just walked along the beach and discussed our many hobbies, favourite sports, what you do in your spear time etc.

Saturday, 26th of March
Distance: 3.4km
Time: 13:35 mins
In the 3.4 we run to the sacred rock from the campus and back to the campus. On this day i felt really sore so i throught i would have struggled with this run but once i warmed up i felt good to go. During the run i really diceided to push myself for me to be able to get my time. I achived this goal in the end and it made myself feel really good. Next time i would like to push myself even harder and get an even better time.

Sunday, 27 of March
Distance: 5.5
Time: 21:35
In todays we ran from campus to the jetty and return. Today i did not feel up to running myself to my limates but i still did any way. Today during the run my goal was to finish in the top runners and i did this with ease i throught. Next time i do the 5.5 i think i will try to get an even better time.

Monday, 28th of March
Power training
Todays fitness was power fitness. This required us to do chin ups. In the chin ups we had to do our personally bests and i got ten only just though which i was really happy.

Tuesday, 29th of March
Distance: 3.4
Time: 13:45
Today the run consisted of us running to the sacred rock and back. Today i felt as though i pushed myself to my limates to reach my person best of 13:45.

Wednesday, 30th of March
Distance: 5.5
Time: group run 40 mins
Today dale challenged two groups one inculding that included hobbsey, and one started earlyer than the other. I was in the group that started the latest and in the end we where close to catching the first group but they got away as we closed in on wambana.

Thursday, 31st of March
Today me and Jake Girke where leaders and we didnt conduct in the fitness program for that day.

Friday, 1st of April
Game
Today we played a game for fitness and it was a compination of football and soccer which i really enjoyed.

Saturday, 2nd of April
Distance: 5.5
Time: 21:10
In todays 5.5 run involved us in running to the end of the point turton jetty and back to campus. Before the run today my body felt really good and i wasnt tired or anything. My main goal for todays run was to improve my time before the 11km run. The main reason my time was better than previous occasions was because i ve improved my fitness throughout the camp. I was happy with my 5.5 time through out the camp and i throught i improved imesnsely.

Sunday, 3rd of April
Today we had a beach walk which enabled us to rest up a little before the 11km run tomorrow in which we walked down the point turton beach and back.

Monday, 4th of April
Distance: 11km
Time: 50:45
Todays run was the last run of the camp and was one of the hardest things i ve ever done. Before the run the class had set challenges to dale for the run and it was either to beat him or reach a goal of a time. I set out to beat dale by 4 minutes by the end of the run. The run was from Hardwike bay running along the beach towards Point Turton and our campus. As soon as i got up i already had nerves running through me and before the race i felt like spewing up. When the race started a group of people sprinted off but i started running with dale for the first km or so. My first check point for me was to reach the white sand dune infront of dale and also catch up to ned who was in second position which i did. By the time i had caught up to ned me and him slowly broke away together in the front with adam far up ahead. Me and ned had deiced to try and stick together the whole run which was something that really worked for both of us becasue we where able to push ourselves. Towards the middle part of the run i started to turn around and see where dale was behind me, he was pretty close so we deiced to pick up the pace and we soon lost him. From then on i tryed to push myself inorder to get dale by thoughs 4 minutes which i throught i was going well with until i hit the sandy track about a km away from the campus. This was a struggle at the start but i soon over came it and tryed picking up a faster pace. By the time i had reached the shed i was buggered but i was really happy i reached my goal of 50 minutes. My legs felt like jelly and i skulled my water botter and then went down the track again to support my other class members. The 11km was a really good challenge for me which made me tired and really sore.

Snorkelling

During our snorkelling tour we travelled to a private beach called butlers beach. During the day we stopped and looked at varies bays to see if the water where calm enough to snorkell. During the morning we stopped quite a bit through out the morning and could not find calm waters. After lunch we stopped at a bay called butlers beach which is one of the main beaches in the property. After lunch we travelled and stopped at the first beach we saw, which was called treasure cove. This cove was the calmest we had seen all day and we decided to stop there to snorkell. Before we jumped into the water Beardy showed us some skills of snorkelling. We learned the skills to clear our masks, duck dive and then blow the water out as we came to the surface, and other skills like letting the masks of under water and then blowing the water out with our noses. During our free time snorkelling we didnt see much sea life, i saw a few decent sized fish but that was really it for the day, i think it could of been better if the sea was alot calmer. The best part about the snorkelling for me was to be able to see a pink jelly fish, it kind of scared me but then i just watched it swim away which was pretty cool. My greatest challenge i had with the snorkelling was one of the skills which was go under water and take your snorkell off under water and blow the water out when you retured to the surface and blow it out with your nose and i really struggled with this new skill and i could not complete this in the end.

Novel

iBoy
Writen by Kevin Brooks

Entry 1- The story called iBoy is set in the rough industrial aera of South London in the modern age. This aera is filled with drugs, alcohol and gangs roaming the streets during the day and night. This story is conveyed to the reader by you always wanting to know what around the couner, for you wanting to find out whats the next plot in the story.

Entry 2- In the novel there are many main characters but their is one who is the main focus, which is Tom Harvey.
- Tom Harvey is a 16 year old boy who has no father or Mother and has been raised single handedly by his Gram in an run down apartment block. One day after school Tom was going to meet one of his friends in the aparment block and just before he entered he heard his name being called out and the moment he looked up the was a black object hailing towards him. It was an iPhone 3gs. Tom after this incident spent 17 days in hospital where he was in a coma. After Tom woke up he found at that one of his best friends had been raped and bashed from that same room the iPhone came out of. This has Tom wanting to know who commited the crime and it has changed the character of himself.

Entry 3- During the novel voiolence is one thing that is consistant throughout the story. Voilence is the one thing in the story that effects the characters of Lucy and Tom. Lucy gets raped by a gang and therefore tom uses his iBoy powers to gain revenge on the gang members and this causes the story line to change.

Entry 4- There is many sences in the book where tom lays on his bed and uses his powers in his mind. He does this for curtain amount of times in the book an if this book was changed into a movie i would leave out thi scene.

Entry 5- The author uses much action in the book to make it feel epic. This was a topic that really entreged me through out the book and i was always wanting to know what was around the courner in the book.

Living in a Wardli

Highs: - Having a comfy bed
- In a warm environment
- Cooking your own food
- Having good food
- Being independant
- Working as a team
- Organising your self and team
- Buying your own food
- Feeling that you have a responsablitiy
- Sharing rooms with your mates

Challenages:
- having to clean up after certain people
- Having to clean up the house everyday
- Having to work in a team
- Lazy roomates
- Solving problems
- Not working as a team
- Everything has to be pretty much perfect in inspections
- Using the washining machine
- Having to sleep outside for consquence
- Keeping things in good order around your house

During my time in the waldlis i really thing to work efficiantly as a team you need people who are willing to cooperate, and this is the thing that i expect out of people in my wladli.

I expect of my self that I try to help and support everyone through the team of the house and that i show respect to others. I hope others see that in myself in the waldli.

Sharing a Waldli

Session 1

1. My strength i believe is that i think i m a good leader in the house. I try to help everyone with there little jobs in the house including my own i support and try to get everyone finish early before we have to move on to do something else. I think i have picked up these by living in the independantly in the boarding house and learning to live by myself which has given me sense of leadership and gives me an advantage over the others in my waldli.
2. Ok, well the first issue we had in the waldi was putting people on jobs on the roster on our white board. People wanted to do curtain jobs and do it consistantly for a daily period. But me and some others didnt want this, we wanted to share the load on different jobs through out the house, we resolved this by evenly splitting the jobs on a daliy basis and everyone agreed. The other issue was when we first moved into the waldli there was an issue of who wanted to room with who and what room people wanted to be in, in the house. I ended up having to just volenteer to go in a room i didnt really want which wasnt to bad any way and we also ended up pulling names from the hat which was a fair call used with inisutive. We have had other issues of people not doing their jobs in the house. This is something i m not to fussed about but it just annoys me most of the time. This is an issue that hasnt been solved but i think a way we can solve it is by following our roster and not being able to be lazy as a team.
3. One day the toilet got blocked with toilet paper and no one had really dicided to volenteer to clean it out by hand so i volenteered. In this situation it was a simple block and i had fixed the problem. This had shown to me that i felt that in myself i was a leader to me. I throught this becasuse no one really wanted to do and i throught to myself well heres my oppertunity to show that i can lead by volenteering to do an easy chore.

Session 2
1. Fuctional housemate
-Leadership: To be a leader you should be organised and willing to do the team things. For the house to be a funtional place and for it to be organised the leader is the perfect examply of keeping the house in an ordely fashion. For other people to have a leader really helps them in order to do there jobs and keep themselves in order.
-Organisation: For a house to be funtional the house need to be organised and neat, not all messy and not punctual towards time management.
-Respect: For the house to work together as a team you need everyone to give each other respect and not nag and fight each other all of the time.
-Teamwork: The house would never work in terms of all of these points with out team work. You couldn't just have one person doing all of the jobs.
-Integrety: The house also need integrety inorder for it to be a functional house. The house wouldnt work without maturity.
2.
The most sucessful person in our wardli is a person who is a great leader and is always willing to work as a team member. He is always keeping everyone in line but he is not naging at you and he is chill most of the time. These atributs i believe is something that every leader needs, but their is always improving.
3.
Organisation is one of the biggest atributes you need inorder to maintain a sucessful wardli. The wardli does not work for you becasue everything wouldnt work and you wouldnt have a functional house.

Poetry

Senses

The sound of the waves crashing against the sharpe pointy rocks,
The smell of the old and tamed ocean wind against the shore,
The feel of the small grains of sand sifting in between your hands,
The taste of the sea water simmering on your taste buds in your mouth,
The sound of the uncurtinty of the unpredictable ocean swells smashing on the shore line,
The birds floating in the ocean sky.

Community Service - Leisure Options

People who are in need that do not have the support to cope, the volenteers are the people that take their free time off to help these people. I learnt that having a disablity does not mean that you have to deal with it alone, but that there is always help out there and that you dont have to live your life like that all the time, you can actually get and in the world and do things. I really liked the type of people you met and the background they had with them, i found this very interesting. The thing i least enjoyed about this experiance wasnt really anything, i really liked this oppertunity to see how these people lived their life and to see how the interacted with us.

Scientific Research - Hooded Plover

Aim: To collect data on a bird called the hooded plover.  The data we will collect will be on the study of frequency, habitats and threats to the plover. This data that we collect will be used to establish a program to increase numbers and to make rational decisions basised on factual information for future research.

Method: Once arriving at the beach the groups will be assigned to taks like scribing, photography, threat observing, GPS operator video. The information collected will be taken on a graph in your book that comes with a table.
- Scribing: Write down threats that have been observed and write down data collected by the GPS.
- Photography: Take photos of any sightings of the plover.
- Threat observing: Observe the area around you to see threats like animals, humans and other types of things.
- GPS operator: Take down the longitude and latitude co-ordinates where the plovers where located on the beach.
- Video operator- Take video observations of the birds seen

Synopsis: A hooded plover is a bird that nests and breeds along beaches in some parts of Australia. The plover is around 10 centimetres in height and 20 centimetres in length and they weigh around 90 to 100 grams. Males and females have the same complexions and their young are just greyer versions of the adults. The problem that is killing the birds are its threats that destroy their nests and drives the bird off of the York Peninsula and many other places around Australia.

Results: In mild conditions of temperatures in low 20's and quite a percentage of cloud, the conditions out at sea where rough and on the shore there where rolling waves coming up to the shore. This is where most of the plovers we saw where located, up to the breaking waves that hit the shore, and they were there to probably catch some food like crustaceans like worms, sea lice and other small living things. During the day we saw any amount of threats to the plover. The threats we saw where cars parked on the beach which could of ran over the plover’s nests and seagulls which eat the plover’s hatchings. These two threats are something that has decreased their numbers over the years, but yesterday we found signs that the population is increasing. To be able to find 4 plovers in 2 pairs show that the research we are doing towards the hooded plover are paying off and that the plovers are increasing in numbers. The plovers that we located where found at S 35.14077 and S 35.14039 at Pondalowie bay. The spots on the beach where we found these plovers was a find where the others in the past had not found many amounts of the birds. This shows that the plovers are hopefully increasing in numbers and that hopefully one day these birds will come off the valneable list.

Community Service - Aleppo Pine Removal

1. The tree is native in the aera in Europe called the Medetterianen.
2. The tree was planted as a wind blocker tree.
3. Becasue the tree is killing other native plants.
4. These people are motovaded by them seeing almost all of our native plants dissapere off the York Peninsula because of the Aleppp pine and they want to see our native plants back.
5. I felt good about my involvement with this program becasue they are only a small group of people trying to destroy a huge pest and i admire seeing these people working their arses off inorder to keep our native environment alive.

Wambana Weather Observations

Surfing

Day 1- Today we went surfing at Berry bay near Corwie Point in the southern york peninsula. Today our class was directed by surfing culture by two guys called Max and Luke. Max is the national u18 surfing campion and luke is a crazy surfer who rides crazy waves. Today they taught us many skills of sufing like standing up on the board, trying to catch the waves and many other skills like the rules and regulations of surfing. During the time out in the water i got up a far few times but the times i didnt get up, it started to fatiuge me. Overall the day was heaps of fun and i carnt wait for tomorrows surfing.

Day 2- Today we went surfing in an area called daly heads just near Corny Point. The beach we surfed at was called dust bowl. The waves where pretty good today but there where lots of rips and undertows which i didnt like to much. The weather was perfect agian today for surfing and there wasnt hardly any hard winds to contend with. Today we started the skill of turing in the waves left an right which i found difficult at the start but then i found it easy by the end of the day.

Leadership Day

On my day as a leader i felt i tryed my hardest at trying at being a leader. The things i would do different next time is to try and organise people to a better standard so then people would have to be as relient on them selves. I believe my strenghts as a leader are that i think i try to support people to the best of their abilities.

Before I Go

I m really excited about the up coming camp and i can't wait for the challenages ahead like the running, the cycling and the team work with other peer members. The thing i will miss the most would be my family but i am kinda used to been away from my parents becasue of boarding school. I m looking foward the aspects of getting to know my peers better and i m dreading the running and the fittness work. I havent really heard much from the other lads that has influanced my throughts on the camp. I think myself will change with my personallity and my throughts are going to be different on liffe when i return. I am hoping to gain more fitness and more self confidance in myself. But, i just can't wait to get over there to camp for a fun  4 and a bit weeks.
